Resources & Data

The TO has acquired hardware that is key to the realization of our scientific objectives. This equipment and any data they produce are communal resources for all TO investigators. These include: GIS laboratory, Beowulf computer, Mass Spectrometer, 50 Broadband Seismometers, and Continuous GPS Geodetic Networks.

GPS MASE, VEOX, and CAnTO Peru Seismic Data
MASE is a cooperative project involving Caltech's Tectonics Observatory, UCLA's CENS, Geophysical Institute at UNAM, and the Center for Geosciences at UNAM. The seismic component consisted of 100 broadband seismometers across central Mexico. The array ran from 2005-2007.

VEOX is a follow-on to MASE and crosses southern Mexico just north of the Techauntepec Ridge.

CAnTO Peru is a cooperative project involving Caltech's Tectonics Observatory, UCLA, IRD/Peru, and IGP. It is a set of passive seismic lines to be deployed in southern Peru. The first line was deployed in the summer of 2008.

Gorkha Earthquake GPS time series

An international team has assembled the most complete dataset of GPS times series related to the 2015, Mw7.8 Gorkha earthquake (Nepal) covering the first 1.12 years of postseismic deformation. These data are presented in the article: 'Postseismic deformation following the 2015 Mw7.8 Gorkha (Nepal) earthquake: new GPS data, kinematic and dynamic models, and the roles of afterslip and viscoelastic relaxation' by Jing Liu-Zeng et al., Journal of Geophysical Research, 2020


COSI-Corr (Co-registration of Optically Sensed Images and Correlation), is a software package developed with IDL (Interactive Data Language) and integrated under ENVI. It allows for precise ortho-rectification, co-registration and correlation of SPOT and ASTER satellite images as well as aerial photographs.

PCAIM (Principal Component Analysis-based inversion Method) software takes a time series of surface deformation data (such as GPS data) and from that data determines the time evolution of slip on the underlying fault. It can be used for any rate of time variation.

GPS GPlates
GPlates is desktop software for the interactive visualization of plate-tectonics. It offers a novel combination of interactive plate-tectonic reconstructions, geographic information system (GIS) functionality, and raster data visualization. It enables both visualization and manipulation of plate-tectonic reconstructions and associated data through geological time. GPlates runs on Windows, Linux and MacOS X.

Schuster_Spectrum Schuster_Spectrum
Schuster_Spectrum software takes a catalog of earthquake events (such as the dates of earthquakes in Nepal) and searches for periodicities. Given two bounding periods, it calculates the precise periods to test, as well as the probability for each period.

Elastic Surface Load
Scripts for modeling elastic deformation of the Earth surface in response to surface load variations determined from satellite gravimetric measurements (GRACE). Updated March 2015
